Chulalongkorn Hosts Helicopter and VTOL Design Short Course for the VFS Competition

Chulalongkorn University’s Department of Aerospace Engineering is proud to launch its first-ever short course on “Helicopter and VTOL Aircraft Design for the VFS Student Design Competition,” held from 6–10 August 2025. This intensive program is led by Dr. Arvind Sinha, Senior Lecturer at the University of Melbourne, Vice President of the Vertical Flight Society (VFS) Asia–Australia Region, and President of the VFS Australia Chapter.

Designed to bridge the gap between academic knowledge and real-world application, the course is mandatory for final-year aerospace engineering students and open to other interested participants. A total of 49 students are expected to attend the program.

The short course emphasizes technical proficiency and conceptual design excellence in rotorcraft and Vertical Take-Off and Landing (VTOL) systems. Through team-based, hands-on projects, students will explore fundamental principles and advanced methodologies aligned with international industry standards.

The curriculum is tailored to prepare students for the 2025 VFS Student Design Competition, a prestigious global challenge that calls on aspiring engineers to develop innovative vertical flight solutions for complex, real-world problems.

The course is part of a growing effort to internationalize aerospace education in Thailand and position Chulalongkorn’s students on the global stage of aerospace innovation. Dr. Sinha brings global expertise and direct insights from the VFS community, ensuring participants receive both academic depth and professional relevance.
